SHIFT One Day: Apologetics Seminar

April 4, 2012 — 1 Comment

[This post is part of the What Are We up to in Ministry? series]

This Saturday, I’ll be talking to a group of college students at UCF about evidences for the Christian faith. It’s part of SHIFT Orlando, which is student organization on the campus of UCF (click thru to read more about their ministry!) I’ll be talking about apologetic method and how to best approach question s posed to the Christian faith. The flipside of this includes how to best pose questions to the skeptic’s faith, and how to answer common agnostic and atheist objections.

If you’re in Orlando, this might be a great opportunity to learn about what you believe as a Christian, or if you’re not a Christian, to find out if Christians are irrational and unscientific simpletons.

Here’s the relevant info (which you can see more easily on the Facebook event page):

  • In-depth on day training and discussion on Christian apologetics
  • Saturday April 7th, 9am-3pm
  • Lunch around 1130 or so
  • UCF Student Union, Room 220
  • Parking for non-UCF students is $3

Though I’m still finalizing material, I’m planning on taking about 50 minutes to talk about each of these topics:

  • General approaches to apologetics
  • The historical proof for the Resurrection
  • Logic and the Christian worldview
  • Science and the Christian worldview
  • Movies and the Christian worldview

Ideally, I’ll use less than 50 minutes and so there will be more than 10 minutes each session for Q/A but we’ll see. I’m really looking forward to it, but I’ll be honest, I’m also a bit nervous. I’m not quite sure what to expect and so am hoping the Spirit will be at work in the sessions and guide our discussions away from any heated arguments developing with skeptic friends who may attend and that the sessions will be informative and encouraging to everyone involved.

In the end, it should be a great day. I’m looking forward to refreshing on some of these topics myself as well as getting to explain and discuss them with a group of students at UCF.

If you’re in town and available, you should probably come check it out!

  1. Hey Nate,

Last question for a while, not wanting to take up to much time. Did they tape or film this? If not I would love to see your notes. I have a lot of respect for you and your theological mind. Thanks.

    John Bray.
