Baptisms in the Swimming Pool

[This post is part of the What Are We Up To In Ministry? series]

As I mentioned a while back, our church meets in a local YMCA. That being the case, we don’t exactly have a baptistry, but we do have a nice pool. So, when someone professes faith in Christ and wants to make that profession of faith public by getting baptized, we all end up out by the pool after church. Usually we schedule it out ahead of time, but since this past Sunday was Easter, we decide to get some gym clothes ahead of time that people could be baptized in. That way, if anyone came forward in response to the message, they could get immediately baptized.

Two of the college kids in our small group were already planning on getting baptized Sunday, but then we had 7 more people come forward including my brother in law, who felt that he really had only legitimately come to faith last year while he was at Bible school. Many of the others were similar stories, people who had been baptized when they were younger, but it was prior to them truly coming to faith.

In the end, we had a great Easter service. The Gospel was preached, we finished our series in Mark with the resurrection, and the Spirit was at work in the hearts of our people and moved several to profess their faith publicly through baptism.

Here’s some pictures of the festivities:

Then Austin, who is also in our city group got baptized. He grew up in the church, but hadn’t been baptized since coming to faith:

Then lastly, here’s Ivan, who actually decided right at the end that he wanted to get baptized. Ali was able to actually get into the water with him since she was already there offering towels to the girls that had gotten baptized:

All in all, it was a great Easter Sunday!
